Match Report: Sevenoaks 2nds 49 – 7 Charlton Park
Saturday 11 October 2025 | Fair weather | Firm pitch
Charlton Park may have left the scoreboard trailing, but they certainly didn’t leave their pride behind.
Facing one of the league’s strongest outfits in Sevenoaks 2nds—a side brimming with national league experience—Park entered the contest with realism, resilience, and a renewed sense of purpose. The final scoreline doesn’t tell the full story. For large stretches of the game, especially the first half, Park matched Sevenoaks in intensity, structure, and ambition.
First Half: Toe-to-Toe with the Titans
After conceding early to a textbook catch-and-drive, Park regrouped and delivered a spirited 35-minute spell that showcased their growing cohesion and tactical sharpness. The training ground improvements were evident: sharper lines, better communication, and a hunger to compete.
• 11’ Jake Conway’s quick tap penalty sparked a promising attack deep into Sevenoaks territory, only halted by a knock-on.
• 22’ Ratu Vuniivi and James Clifford combined brilliantly from a scrum, Clifford weaving through defenders before feeding James Hamilton—another near miss.
• 26’ Izy Matea’s brave cover tackle, albeit penalised, typified Park’s commitment.
• 38’ Sevenoaks doubled their lead, but Park’s defensive shape and set-piece pressure kept them honest.
• Stoppage Time saw Clifford and Matea nearly engineer a stunning counter-attack try, denied only by a cruel bounce.
Park’s scrum dominance was a highlight, especially in the Sevenoaks 22 where they drove their opponents backwards with authority. The referee’s whistle may have robbed them of a deserved score, but the intent was unmistakable.
Second Half: Grit Amidst the Storm
Sevenoaks returned from the break with renewed fire, running in five tries in a 22-minute blitz. Yet Park never folded. They tackled, chased, and countered with heart.
• Sam Spriddell dazzled with footwork and flair, delivering his finest performance in Park colours.
• Jake Conway produced the tackle of the match on 70 minutes, halting a dangerous break with bone-rattling precision.
• 76’ saw Park’s persistence rewarded. Clifford broke through, Raybe linked up, and Spriddell danced through defenders to score a richly deserved try. Vuniivi’s conversion from the touchline was a beauty.
Coach’s Verdict
Shae Tucker kept it succinct post-match:
“We knew this was going to be a tough game… The first half was outstanding. Communication, running lines, teamwork—we went toe to toe. We just need to do it for 80 minutes.”
His message was clear: Park are building something. The spirit is strong, the systems are improving, and the belief is growing.
