Charlton Park enjoyed a much deserved victory in this bottom of the clash against old rivals Thanet Wanderers.
Despite nearly falling behind to an early Thanet penalty which it the post, Park took the lead through a try by Felix Marot following some good lead up play.
However, despite some confident moments, the home side fell behind to a converted try following a mistake in Park’s back line- the loose ball kicked through and pounced on by the Thanet left winger.
Playing downhill and with some experienced heads back in the front five, Park then produced some of their best rugby of the season in scoring 3 tries through Kittow Onyett, Davit Goginashvilli and, of course, Reion Raybe ( following a lovely, delayed pass by Ben Monsey).
Thanet had scored also a second try of their own following another Park error leaving the halftime score 22-12 in favour of the home side, with a 4 try bonus point in the bag.
Park were playing with confidence and it didn’t take long for them to score a 5th through Tom Allen following a strong lineout catch and drive by the pack.
Two more tries followed, a second from Marot and one from Jake Conway following some deft footwork from Bill ‘twinkle toes’ Sandison.
Thanet scored a third try following a good breakout from their own half but the Park win was cemented through a last minute penalty kick by Kieron Martin.
This was a real confidence boost for Park following their recent travails and a performance to take forward.
Player of the Match was Kittow Onyett.
Next week, Park are away to Cranbrook in another key fixture. Kick off is at 2pm.
All support would be welcomed.
