Charlton Park suffered another defeat at the hands of our old friends Beccehamian, in Saturday's league game at West Wickham.
Despite the promising signs from last week’s match against the Pilgrims, a much-changed side, especially in the back division due to injury and unavailability, failed to really get going against a side positioned toward the top of the league.
Despite the Home team missing an easy penalty kick at goal, they were soon seven points to the good following a try from the inside centre after a quickly taken penalty following a scrum penalty.
Despite the early scrum pressure from Park, exacerbated when Terry Read entered the fray as a replacement for the injured Ryan McSweeney, the referee seemed reluctant to reward Park's advantage in this area of the game.
Beccehamian scored their second try of the game following a turnover from a park attack. The ball went loose following a tackle and following a breakout the Becc's second row score the try which was again converted.
Shortly after, Park scored their first try of the game. Following a Park Lineout in the opposition twenty-two, the ball loose ball was picked up by skipper Luke Boyns who powered over the line. The conversion by Ross Sidebottom was successful, and a further 3poiner form the home kicker meant that the half time score was 17-7 in favour of Beccehamian.
A yellow card for Park Full Back Saba Svimonishvili 10 minutes into the second half meant that Park were now under increased pressure and in the time that Park were down to fourteen they conceded two tries, one converted, thus extending the home side's lead by twelve points.
A further yellow card, this time for Ben Monsey for backchat, meant Park had now played a quarter of the match a player down.
However, on this occasion only three points were conceded and indeed it was Park who score the last points of the game with a try for Nick Jacquet, again converted by Sidebottom.
Final Score Beccehamian 32 - Charlton Park 14.
Congratulations to Beccehamian on a well-deserved victory but this was a ragged performance by Park, not helped by indiscipline and a drop off in commitment compared to previous weeks.
The players have 2 weeks to reflect on this defeat before they turn things around against Thanet Wanderers at Broad Walk on December 2nd. Kick 2.00pm
