Sunday April 28th

Kent Finals Day at Charlton Park.

The ground is looking fantastic! A great day of rugby is in store. Five finals to be decided.

We would welcome anyone who is willing to volunteer their services – it’s going to be a long day. If you are a spectator, whether a member of CPRFC or not, and you are coming by car, you must come in at the Samuel Montague Youth Club entrance; parking will be on pitch 3 or on SMYC ground. The club car park is for players and officials with tickets only. The best thing would be to leave the car at home.

Order for the Day

11.30 Kent Vase: Ashford v King’s College Hospital

12.30 Kent Salver: Southwark Lancers v Faversham

13.30 Kent Shield: Charlton Park v Gravesend

14.30 Kent Plate: Westcombe Park v Canterbury Pilgrims

16.00 Kent Cup: Old Elthamians v Sidcup

Come along, join the volunteer helpers’ brigade (contact Doug, Nick or Dave) support the club and 1st team and enjoy the beer (and food)

As a community club we offer our coaching services to all our local football-orientated schools who wish to introduce rugby to years 7 and 8. This is becoming very popular, with five schools already involved taking up each weekday afternoon and several more wanting to join up. All coaches are being paid by the club. If you wish to support this success story by either coaching or sponsoring, or you are a school who would like to take up this opportunity, please contact us.

Club training is on Thursdays 5.30pm to 7.30pm. For further information please email  Doug Hursey, or see our Youth Information page.

The date of this photo is uncertain, but we do know some of the people in it so it will come from just before the First World War, round about 1912 when we had a pretty strong team. At the time, of course, we were the Old Charltonians.

The captain, holding the ball, is FR (Freddie) Roberts. He played half-back (scrum-half?) for Kent and also represented London against Paris that year. We cannot be completely certain but the player on his right is probably HJ Turpin, who also played for the county.

Roberts survived the war to be captain again in 1919. On his left is Harold Hollis who was in the Kent side that won the County Championship in 1923.
