Blackheath Ladies, who are based at Charlton Park’s ground in Broad Walk, have plans to play more Friday evening home matches after the success of the Battersea Ironsides pre-season game last week (14th May). Their venture into Friday Night Lights was voted an unqualified success by all and would undoubtedly prove an attractive event if continued next season.

Despite being outgunned by a bigger and well-drilled Blackheath the 73-0 winning margin was not a fair reflection of the visitors’ organised and forthright performance. However, for the record, Blackheath scored 12 (or maybe 13) tries, several the result of spectacular moves, and received 2 yellow cards. The game which was full of flowing rugby and fierce defence, was played in front of a large and appreciative crowd desperate for some live rugby.

On this evidence Blackheath are well set for a successful 2021/22 season.
