In a year saddened by the passing away of Calvin, Tony Rodway and Dave Robjohns – three giants of the club, the yearly report is generally positive. The first team narrowly missed the poisoned chalice of promotion, finishing third, the electrics were sorted, but even so the accounts still show a small credit, and we started our 125th celebrations with a lunch for 176 past players and guests.

We are very pleased that we were able to afford the large cost of the electrical refit thanks to the hard work of Terry Read, grant support from Kent thanks to Barry Causer’s skills in writing applications and our main sponsorship from Undercover. We have cut down on our financial outgoings and the income from outside lettings has risen, although there has been a reduction in income over the bar due to fewer lower team home games and from a gentle but steady decline in membership.

The first team’s success continued from last year – third in the league and the London Final of the Intermediate Cup – where continuity of players augmented by some good newcomers and some dedicated coaching from Lee and his team made us a good team to watch.

Our schools links have strengthened with over 100 young people benefitting from our coaching and a further 200+ taking part in the termly festivals Thanks go to Chris Bristow and Tommo for all their work but more coaching support will be needed as these numbers increase with more schools next year. Big thanks must go to Brewin Dolphin for their generous support.

Other committee actions have included a revamped DPP in line with law changes, updating our safeguarding policy, with Ally Young agreeing to be our safeguarding officer, moving our website to a new host after a phishing attack and passing our Seal of Approval for a further three years. Other work is under way to improve the gym, physio room and office, put display cases in the bar and provide new post pads.

Once again we have to report that the club is run by a few volunteers and some very hardworking staff on the ground, bar and kitchen, (thanks to Colin, Pauline and Jackie and their teams) driven in his inimitable fashion by Doug. We owe them our gratitude and support. The committee continues to focus on sustaining the health and vitality of our club.
