Three Rugby
Pitches
While we rugby players only take to the
field only 8 or 9 months of the year at Charlton Park our very own
'ground force' work a hard 12 months. Led by Bertie the CPRFC ground secretary
our team of grounds people have transformed all three pitches
since our arrival at Broad Walk. The playing surfaces have
- Had
fertilizer applied and the number one pitch has been over seeded
and had sixty tones of topdressing applied
- All
three pitches verti
drained. This is a large spiking machine that bores deep holes.
240 tonnes of sand applied to the pitches to fill the holes
- Drainage
to the number three pitch and training area completed with the
addition of gravel bands every two metres
- A
porous pipe laid
then backfilled with
gravel and topped with sand
- Installation
of new floodlights to first and training pitches
In
addition the club has invested in the
purchase
of a tractor and sundry plant such as a roller, slitter, scarryfier,
chain harrows and hosepipes with sprinklers, all essential to the
preparation of the playing surface.
A
big thank you to all our very own 'ground force' and the only thing
missing is Charlie Dimmock!
