Floodlights for pitch two

The bases are now in place and the six pylons are to be erected next week. As you will know, the bulk of the cost for these has been paid for by a grant of £30,000+ from the RFU, and the remaining £4,000+ has been generously donated by Alphatrack. This will enable us to light two pitches and the training area between them and hopefully to cope with the increasing numbers of junior players now using our facilities from local schools during the day and from over 100 junior members in the evenings.

We have discovered, however, that the cabling is now over 30 years old and have decided to have it all renewed by the RFU contractors while they are here. This will cost us another £8,000. We are meeting with our bank manager to negotiate an increase in the loan to help us pay for this, along with new posts for pitches one and two and the installation of better security.

Although the club is by no means broke, this is a large outlay over the summer when less is being generated over the bar and if anyone out there feels able to help us out please say. We already have an offer of the cabling. Dennis Attwood has all the details.

South African arrivals

You will remember Quinten Grobler, a young prop who was with us the year before last. He is returning next season with two mates – a prop and a hooker – but would like to have work to come to. Is there anyone who can employ three hard-working Yappies who will definitely benefit the club? If you can, please contact Dave Collen or Andy Potts.

AGM

Our accounts for last year should be ready in about six weeks so the AGM will take place at the end of August; watch this space. We need to fill some important positions which are based on the recommendations of the 5-year plan steering group.

Sponsorship

The club already receives considerable help from sponsors who pay for team shirts, training equipment, youth organisation, awards, who subsidise players, and who offer their expertise free of charge. We hope to be able to recognize this more openly next season. We would also like to have a ball sponsor for each home game (basic deal £50 but £200 on vice-presidents days to include a table of eight guests).

Club Structure

A small steering group made up of Cazzer, Vicky, Dog, Bert Duffus, Richard Gray (parent of youth captain), Barry Causer, Andy P and chaired by Dennis is in the process of redrawing the 5-year plan along RFU lines. The committee meets on the first Monday of each month at 7.45 and any member is welcome to attend to see what happens. There’s a lot to be done. We are in the process of setting budgets for next year.

I’ll try to keep members better informed now I’ve got more time on my hands.
